WACO, TX — A feast was held in Waco today to honor the men and women who serve our country.
Shirley Sims, the widow of Marine Veteran Sgt. Louis S. Sims Sr., hosted her 7th annual luncheon with the help of the community.
The event welcomed veterans of all branches to come together and share a meal.
Sims' husband passed away 15 years ago. He was a Purple Heart recipient.
She says the luncheon is her way of reminding all veterans that they are not forgotten.
"It's just all about how they laid down their lives, they sacrificed their lives for us, so I wish I could give them more. All I could do is give them love, and prayer and the dinner," says Sims.
She says she plans to continue honoring veterans each year.
Sims also thanked the community who helped her make the event possible.
