WACO, TX — A locally owned family business is bringing families together through creativity.
The Rustic Brush located near 14th St. and North Valley Mills Road is offering at-home paint kits to keep kids occupied.
Owners, Sandy and Jesse Cantu said they rely on people doing projects because they are a DIY shop but the shelter-in-place order is taking on toll on business.
That was, until they came up with the idea to sell paint kits and deliver them.
“He’s been doing a lot of the cutting. The eggs are really popular. He’s like a lumberjack back there just going and going," Sandy Cantu said.
In three days, nearly 70 kits were sold and Sandy said it's an activity perfect for kids who are coping with a new normal.
“A distraction of not being able to mingle with their school friends, go out and do other stuff. Just to try to keep their mind off of what’s going on," she said.
Amanda McAdams, a school teacher, has been working at home with her children.
She ordered at-home paint kits and said it was the perfect opportunity to get quality time with her kids.
“They were excited. They love to do anything painting, playdough, anything they can do that we don’t normally get to do as a family, because you know, life is busy. So they were very excited to do this," McAdams said.
“It was really fun. We got to have a lot of fun spending time together," Riley McAdams said.
Each kits costs between $15 and $25 dollars depending on which kit you choose. Every kit includes paint, brushes, stencils and different shapes of wood.
“Pretty much everything was right there for them to do. It was like a workshop like you would come in," McAdams said.
And you don't have to be a Picasso to try it out.
"Regardless of how they paint it, since we use a stencil, once they do what they want, do the colors and take the stencil off, it looks really well," Cantu said.
The Rustic Brush is also offering curb-side pickup.
