WACO, TX — After being inspired by the Adopt-A-Senior Central Texas group on Facebook, a kindergarten version is gaining followers online.

The Adopt-A-Kinder Graduate: Waco group has gained over 350 members since it began on April 17.

"With it being officially announced that schools will not reopen for the 2019-2020 school year, lots of families have realized that their kinder graduates won't get to walk the stage before crossing over to 1st grade," the group creator Charra Burns said. "Let's help celebrate these kinder graduates!"

Parents can post about their kinder graduate, showcasing who they are, along with a list of their favorite items.

Once adopted at least once, parents can set up delivery arrangements through private messages to send the child gifts.

Her son, Bryce, is "Kid #1" and has already been "adopted" in the group.

Burns says 65 other parents have made posts for their children, with many more still pending approval.

"Bryce is funny, tough, and has the cutest smile! He loves his siblings, family/friends, and his teacher, Mrs Garrett. His favorite subject is math," Burns posted in honor of her son.

She says Bryce, along with all of the other sweet kinders, are her inspiration for the group.

Burns has had to limit the group to kindergarten graduates that attend a school in Waco and surrounding areas within 10 miles outside of Waco. She says parents from Lorena, Robinson, Hewitt, Woodway, China Spring, and Bellmead are all welcome.
