Highway 190 bypass reopened after crash involving 18-wheeler

COPPERAS COVE, TX — (UPDATE: July 30, 2019 9:23 p.m.) Copperas Cove PD says the US Highway 190 bypass has been reopened.

The Copperas Cove Police Department is investigating a traffic collision that happened Monday morning.

Police said at approximately 6:32 p.m., officials responded to a long bridge on the US Highway 190 bypass in reference to a vehicle collision involving two vehicles.

The initial investigation revealed a Hyundai sedan was traveling westbound on 190 and an 18-wheeler truck and trailer was traveling eastbound. The Hyundai crossed onto the oncoming traffic lane and struck the 18-wheeler head on.

The driver of the Hyundai was transported by Air Evac to Baylor Scott and White in Temple with severe injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported to Advent Health with not life-threatening injuries.

The bridge sustained damage to the guardrail during the crash and will be closed until TxDOT completes repairs.

It is not known the length of the closure.

Eastbound and westbound I-14 traffic at Copperas Cove will be temporarily detoured to BUS 190 through the city.
