TEMPLE, TX — A collision in the access road of Interstate 35 is causing smoke and traffic backups in the areas.

According to the Bell County Sheriff's Department, the call came in around 11 a.m., that a crash happened in the 3300 block of S. General Bruce Drive, and caused a fire.

A deputy attempted to pull over a vehicle for speeding and not having a front license plate, and a pursuit started on I-35 NB. The deputy lost sight of the car and called off the pursuit.

As the deputy kept driving they came upon an accident. The suspect vehicle hit the back of another vehicle and went off the I-35 NB and onto the 4700 block of South Bruce Drive.

Two people exited the suspect vehicle and took off on foot. They were arrested shortly after.

The suspected vehicle was a stolen car out of Austin. The woman in the other vehicle was transported just as a precaution.

If you are in the area, expect delays.
