The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s basketball team is again ranked #1 in the South Region in the third regular season NCAA Division III Regional Rankings of the 2018-19 season, released on Wednesday. Emory & Henry is ranked second, U.T.-Dallas held in third, Oglethorpe University is fourth and Emory University rounds out the top five. Trinity University is #6, Austin College is ranked seventh, Millsaps is ranked #8, and Guilford rounds out this week’s ranking at #9. UMHB and UTD are both in the American Southwest Conference. The Cru has victories over Austin College, UT-Dallas and Oglethorpe this season. UMHB also has a loss against Thomas More and the Saints are ranked #1 in the Great Lakes Region in the third regional ranking.
The NCAA Regional Rankings are used to determine selections and seedings for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Wins over regionally ranked opponents is another part of the criteria used in selecting and seeding those teams. This is the final regional ranking released to the public prior to Monday’s announcement of the field for the NCAA Division III National Championships.
The Cru finished the regular season at 23-2 overall and won the ASC West Division title with a 15-1 mark in conference play. UMHB is hosting the ASC Championship Tournament for the first time in program history and faces Louisiana College in a 7:30 pm Quarterfinal game on Thursday.
