The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s basketball team is again ranked #1 in the South Region in the second regular season NCAA Division III Regional Rankings of the 2018-19 season, released on Wednesday. Emory & Henry is ranked second, U.T.-Dallas moved up one spot to third, Emory University is fourth and Trinity University rounds out the top five. Austin College is #6, Millsaps is ranked seventh, Oglethorpe is ranked #8, and Guilford is #8 rounds out this week’s ranking at #9. UMHB and UTD are both in the American Southwest Conference. The Cru has victories over Austin College, UT-Dallas and Oglethorpe this season. UMHB also has a loss against Thomas More and the Saints are ranked #1 in the Great Lakes Region in the second regional ranking.
The NCAA Regional Rankings are used to determine selections and seedings for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Wins over regionally ranked opponents is another part of the criteria used in selecting and seeding those teams. There will be one more regional ranking released to the public prior to the announcement of the field for the NCAA Division III National Championships.
The Cru is 21-2 overall on the season and has a 13-1 mark in ASC play. UMHB closes out the regular season with home games against Sul Ross State and Howard Payne University this week. The Cru women have already clinched the outright ASC West Division title and the right to host the ASC Championship Tournament.
