The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s basketball team dropped one spot to sixth in the South Region in the second regular season NCAA Division III Regional Rankings of the 2018-19 season, released on Wednesday. Randolph-Macon is #1 in the ranking with Centre College ranked #2. Emory University is ranked third, Guilford remained at #4 and Lynchburg slipped ahead of the Cru at #5. Lynchburg, Washington & Lee and Roanoke College round out the eight-team South Region ranking this week.
The NCAA Regional Rankings are used to determine selections and seedings for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Wins over regionally ranked opponents is another part of the criteria used in selecting and seeding those teams. There will be two more regional rankings released to the public prior to the announcement of the field for the NCAA Division III National Championships.
The Cru is 18-5 overall on the season and has a 9-5 mark in ASC play. UMHB will close out the regular season with home games against Sul Ross State and Howard Payne this week. The Cru has already clinched an ASC Championship Tournament berth and needs one more win to lock up a share of the ASC West Division title.
