GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team fell behind early and a late comeback bid fell short in a 10-1 loss to Concordia Texas Saturday in Grand Prairie, The Cru drops to 0-2 on the season with the loss. The Tornados move to 2-0 on the year with the victory.
Concordia grabbed a quick lead with three runs in the second and three more in the third. The Tornados tacked on two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to push the lead to 10-0. UMHB would cut into the lead on Tyler Howell’s RBI groundout in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Cru also loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the eighth but could not push across a run. The game was called after the bottom of the eighth due to the weather.
Landon Dieterich had two of UMHB’s four hits in the contest and Devon Patterson scored the Cru’s run. Ross Baer took the loss for UMHB despite striking out seven batters in three innings. Concordia had 12 hits in the game and had three pitchers combine on a four-hitter.
The Cru is scheduled to close out the tournament with a 1 pm start against Hendrix College on Sunday. UMHB will then play a three-game series at Schreiner University next weekend.
