McLennan Softball dropped both games of today’s doubleheader with the Kilgore Lady Rangers this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
Kilgore took game one 12-5 with Lindy Alexander taking the loss for McLennan in the circle.
The Lady Rangers jumped out to an early lead, scoring nine runs in the top of the first inning. Camille Freudensprung and Shelby East drew back-to-back walks to lead off the inning. Kendyl Dockter followed with a three-run homer. Brenna Ortiz singled and Nicole King drew a walk. Makenna Bell followed with a fielder’s choice, but all runners were safe, loading the bases. Lauren Corley and Freudensprung both walked, bringing Ortiz and King in to score. A fielder’s choice by East scored Bell. Dockter was hit by the pitch, bringing Corley in to score. Freudensprung scored on a passed ball, Kelsey Ahart walked and East scored on a wild pitch.
McLennan scored two runs in the bottom of the first as Genisa Marrero-Carter and Sophie Wideman both singled and scored on a double by Emeri Eubanks.
The Highlassies added two runs in the bottom of the third Kaelin Morkisch singled and Joani Kohlscheen drew a walk. Wideman followed with a double to score Morkisch, and Kohlscheen scored on a sacrifice fly by Eubanks.
The Lady Rangers scored two runs in the fourth. Ortiz reached on an error and was replaced by Brooke Goynes as a pinch runner. Goynes then moved to second on a ground out by King and scored on a double by Bell. Christina Herrera grounded out, moving Bell to third. Corley then singled to score Bell.
Ahart’s home run in the top of the fifth would be the Lady Ranger’s final run of the game.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Morkisch and Marrero-Carter both singled. Wideman then singled to score Morkisch.
Destiny Guerra took the loss in the circle for the Highlassies in game two with Kilgore defeating McLennan 11-6.
Kilgore began the scoring with four runs in the top of the first inning. East was safe at first on an error and Dockter walked. Ahart followed with a double to score East. Bell walked and King doubled, bringing Dockter and Ahart in to score. Bell then scored on the throw.
The Lady Rangers added three runs in the top of the fourth. Freudensprung walked and East was safe on a McLennan error. Freudensprung stole home, and Dockter doubled to score East. Dockter then moved to third on a ground out by Ahart and scored on a ground out by Bell.
The Highlassies scored two in the bottom of the fourth. Olivia Lantigua singled and Brooke Arnold doubled. Daniella Hill followed with a double to score both runners.
McLennan added three more runs in the fifth. Morgan Hill was safe on an error but was out at second on a fielder’s choice by Charley Avery. Rebeca Fajardo was safe on an error, and Wideman walked to load the bases. Eubanks’ fielder’s choice put Avery out at home, keeping the bases loaded. Lantigua singled to score Fajardo and Wideman. Eubanks then scored on an error.
Another Highlassie run scored in the bottom of the fifth. Hill was hit by the pitch, and Morkisch followed with a fielder’s choice to put Hill out at second. Morkisch advanced to second on a ground out by Kohlscheen and scored on a double by Avery.
Kilgore rounded out the scoring with four runs in the top of the seventh. Decareu reached on an error and Corley singled. Herrera followed with a double to score both runners. East and Dockter both singled, bringing Herrera in to score. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, and East scored on a sacrifice fly by Ahart.
McLennan will compete in the San Jacinto Round Robin on Friday & Saturday at the Scrap Yard in Conroe.
