The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s basketball team is ranked #1 in the South Region in the first regular season NCAA Division III Regional Rankings of the 2018-19 season, released on Wednesday. Emory & Henry is ranked second, Austin College is third, U.T.-Dallas is ranked fourth and Trinity University rounds out the top five. Millsaps is #6, Oglethorpe is ranked 7th, Guilford is #8 and East Texas Baptist rounds out this week’s ranking at #9. UMHB, UTD and ETBU are all in the American Southwest Conference. The Cru has victories over Austin College, UT-Dallas, Oglethorpe and East Texas Baptist this season. UMHB also has a loss against Thomas More and the Saints are ranked #1 in the Great Lakes Region in the first regional ranking.

The NCAA Regional Rankings are used to determine selections and seedings for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Wins over regionally ranked opponents is another part of the criteria used in selecting and seeding those teams. There will be two more regional rankings released to the public prior to the announcement of the field for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

The Cru is 20-2 overall on the season and has a 12-1 mark in ASC play. UMHB returns to action with a 1 pm home game against Concordia Texas on Saturday. The Cru women can clinch the outright ASC West Division title and the right to host the ASC Championship Tournament with a victory.
