The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s basketball team is ranked fifth in the South Region in the first regular season NCAA Division III Regional Rankings of the 2018-19 season, released on Wednesday. Randolph-Macon is #1 in the ranking with Centre College ranked #2. Emory University is ranked third and Guilford is just ahead of the Cru at #4. Lynchburg, Emory & Henry and fellow American Southwest Conference program, U.T.-Dallas round out the eight-team South Region ranking this week.
The NCAA Regional Rankings are used to determine selections and seedings for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Wins over regionally ranked opponents is another part of the criteria used in selecting and seeding those teams. There will be two more regional rankings released to the public prior to the announcement of the field for the NCAA Division III National Championships.
The Cru is 17-5 overall on the season and has an 8-5 mark in ASC play. UMHB returns to action with a 3 pm home game against Concordia Texas on Saturday. The winner of that game will take over sole possession of first place in the ASC West Division going into the final week of the regular season.
