PHOENIX — A quadruple amputee dog from the Valley who inspired people around the world has died, according to her family.
The Howell family adopted Chi Chi from South Korea after the dog was found in a trash bin with her legs bound and tied with wire. A butcher deemed her unacceptable for meat and she was left to die. Once she was rescued, doctors said the only way to save her was by amputating all four of her legs.
Elizabeth Howell saw video of Chi Chi online and had to give her a home in Arizona.
A GoFundMe account was set up to help fund Chi Chi’s prosthetic limbs.
She spent years working with human amputees, visiting hospitals and creating a large following of fans on social media.
She was also awarded the honor of 2018 American Humane Hero Dog.
According to a post on Chi Chi’s Facebook page, she passed away Monday. She had some recent health complications, according to recent posts.
“She changed our lives and positively impacted many people all over the world. We believe she will continue to inspire people for a long time to come,” the post read.
Within a few minutes of posting, there were already hundreds of comments about the inspirational dog’s passing.
