Reports from ESPN, NFL Network, and several other sources say Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is not expected to extend head coach Jason Garrett's contract.
Garrett's deal is set to expire after the 2019 season.
The Cowboys staff is young and inexperienced with 30-year-old Kellen Moore taking over as offensive coordinator (his first time in that role), 46-year-old Jon Kitna coaching quarterbacks (after coaching mostly at the high school level), and 40-year-old Marc Colombo coaching offensive line after taking over the job midway through the season.
Garrett has said there have been no conversations between his agent and the team on a new deal, but this is not the first time he will have had to coach for his future.
After three straight 8-8 seasons, Garrett went into 2014 without an extension. The Cowboys went 12-4, won the division and a wild card game, and then lost on the infamous "Dez caught it" play.
