CANDLER COUNTY, GA (KXXV) - A property owner in Georgia has been charged with animal cruelty after 167 dogs were found living in filth.
The Candler County Sheriff's Office rescued 163 German shepherds from the property on Jan. 3. The sheriff's office said three dogs had to be humanely euthanized and one dog escaped from a rescue group.
The Atlanta Humane Society has taken many of those animals in, and will be moving the most medically in-need animals to locations in Alpharetta and West Midtown. The rescue was on-scene to give each of the dogs a basic medical exam.
Other animal rescues are pitching in to help the Atlanta Humane Society due to the high number of dogs being taken in.
The sheriff's office said they expect to bring more charges on the property owner.
