No. 23 Texas A&M Aims For Unbeaten December Against UTRGV Saturday

Posted

COLLEGE STATION- No. 23 Texas A&M looks to extend its winning streak to seven games, and close out the month of December without a loss, hosting UTRGV in a women’s basketball game at 12 p.m. Saturday, December 29 inside Reed Arena. Tickets start at $3 for youth and $5 for adults with the ongoing Holiday Hoops promotion.

The game airs on local radio on The Zone 1150 AM, with Tom Turbiville and Tap Bentz on the call. The game is available for viewing on SEC Network +, which provides events to SEC Network subscribers through WatchESPN and the ESPN app on smartphones, computers, tablets and connected devices (Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360 and Xbox One).

The Aggies (10-2), are riding their longest winning streak since the 2015-16 season, and have matched the fourth-longest winning streak during Texas A&M’s tenure in the SEC. Kayla Wells has averaged 20.0 points per game over the last three games—which includes wins over Pac-12 foes Oregon State and Southern California—while N’dea Jones leads the team with 18.3 rebounds per game over that same span. On Dec. 21, the Aggies defeated Prairie View 70-57, with four Aggies scoring in double figures.

UTRGV (6-5) is coming off an 81-66 loss to then-No. 12 Texas, but only trailed the Longhorns by a point into the third quarter in front of a sellout crowd at the UTRGV Fieldhouse. Idil Türk leads the Vaqueros at 11.3 points per game.

The Aggies own a 7-0 lead in the all-time series with the school whose athletic programs competed under the “UTPA” moniker until a 2015 consolidation and name change to UTRGV. Texas A&M is looking for a perfect 7-0 record in December, and an undefeated December for the first time since 2009.

Several promotions are ongoing during the game, in addition to the continuation of Holiday Hoops. Kids’ Court is open in the women’s basketball practice gym from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., which features inflatables, face painting, animal balloons, a photo booth and basketball shooting fun. The Rhythm Rockers are scheduled to appear at halftime to perform their popular routine.

Fans are advised that parking costs $5 for all doubleheader gamedays but a men's basketball season parking pass allows entry to the parking lots for all games. Fans are encouraged to stay for the men's game against Texas Southern, using their women's basketball ticket as a general admission seat to the second game. A double-header Frito Pie Dog $10 meal deal is available starting at the fourth quarter of the women’s game, to accommodate fans staying for both games.
