La Vega dominates Decatur to advance to State

The La Vega Pirates made it back to the State Semifinals, the round they were knocked out of the playoffs last year.

But, with that in the back of their minds, the Pirates came to AT&T Stadium motivated and ready to fight for the chance to advance to state.

The La Vega Pirates were all business coming into Friday’s semifinal matchup against the Decatur Eagles, and they wasted no time getting to work.

The first drive of the game, John Richards busted through the Decatur defense and outran everyone to the end zone to get the Pirates on the board.

Then it was the defense’s turn to make a statement.

Eagles quarterback Roman Fuller looking deep is blown up by Demarr Hayes. Fuller fumbled, and the Pirates took over.

Next time out, Fuller was able to get a pass off to Layton Harris, but Daylon Williams had other plans. Harris was met with a big hit and fumbled the ball.

The Pirates capitalized this time and Richards added another TD to his stats after flying past the Eagles defenders and across the goal line.

To start the second quarter, Richards does it again, spinning out of a tackle and in.

A quick handoff to Jar’Quae Walton resulted in another six points as he also spins out of a tackle and into the end zone.

Pirates quarterback Ara Rauls calls his own number and no one touches him as he extends La Vega’s lead to 33.

Pirates go on to win 54-0 and advance to State.

The La Vega Pirates will face the winner of Carthage and Liberty Hill next Friday to battle for the State title.

Carthage is the team who knocked La Vega out of the playoffs last year and went on to win State.
