Texas A&M junior outside hitter Hollann Hans was named AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced today. The prestigious honor follows a record-setting season by the Corpus Christi, Texas, native who broke or tied more than 30 A&M match, single season and career records during the year.

Hans becomes the 17th player in Texas A&M history to merit AVCA All-America distinction, and her award marks the 27th overall AVCA All-American honor presented to an A&M player. She also becomes the first Aggie All-American under the direction of head coach Laura “Bird” Kuhn, who just completed the first season of her head coaching career.

Hans ranks in the top 10 in the nation in total aces (64), aces per set (0.53), total points (624) and points per set (5.20). She also ranks 14th in the country in total kills (528) and 17th in kills per set (4.40). Her 64 total aces obliterated A&M’s longest standing all-time season record of 59 aces, which had stood since 1983. Her aces per set also is an all-time school record, while her kills and points totals and per set averages are all program records in the 25-point rally scoring era, which began in 2008.

Hans, who last week became the first player in A&M history to be named AVCA Region Player of the Year, took team-high honors in points in 25 matches and in kills in 24 contests in 2018. She recorded double-figure kills in 27 of 29 matches played, tallying 20 or more kills 15 times. The six-rotation player, who was second on the team with 2.60 digs per set for the full season and 2.78 digs per set in SEC matches, also reached double-digit digs in 17 matches, and she recorded the first 20-20 performance of her career with 22 kills and a career-high 21 digs against Tennessee.

Hans, who led the SEC with 5.20 points per set and 16 double-doubles for the full season, was named to the All-SEC Team and was a four-time SEC Offensive Player of the Week. She also was tabbed SEC Player of the Week during the season, and she led the SEC with 5.30 points and 0.61 aces per set as well as 12 double-doubles in conference matches only.

Texas A&M finished the season 17-13 overall and tied for fifth in the SEC with a 10-8 record.
