The Texas Department of Transportation held a public information meeting Tuesday to keep residents updated on what to expect in the spring.
TxDOT wanted to let the community know that construction on I-35 will soon move its way into Waco.
With this meeting, TxDOT is ensuring the community is ready and prepared for the N. Loop 340 to S. Loop 340 construction.
It will be divided into two sections, Project 4C moving from South Loop 340 to 12th Street and Project 4B moving from 12th Street to North Loop 340.
Ken Roberts the public information officer for TxDOT says the previous work on I-35 is like "driving on something from the 60s," and the work will ultimately create safer conditions for Texas drivers.
"There needs to be an upgrade to efficiency and safety, and that's what we're going to do," Roberts said.
The City of Waco has worked closely with TxDOT to ensure that the public is faced with as little inconvenience as possible.
"TxDOT has been very good asking the city for its input and the residents for their input about how this project can run and work in a way that causes the least disruption through our city," Roberts said.
"There's going to be some inconvenience, there's going to be some impacts on the traveling public, on the community," Roberts said. "We want to minimize that as much as we can."
Along with the city officials, state officials also made it a priority to visit the public meeting. State Representative Doc Anderson is looking forward to the big picture.
"I-35 is the main artery for e-commerce in the United States of America, we want to make sure locally that it is beneficial locally, statewide and nationally," Anderson said.
According to officials, the work in Waco is estimated to take anywhere between three to five years.
According to TxDOT, the completed I-35 project will result in improved highway transportation to better handle the flow and safety of traffic on the road and less time wasted in traffic.
