Time is running out for those who are looking to send or receive packages before Christmas.
Millions of packages will be processed through the United States Postal Service in the days leading up to the holiday.
The U.S.Postal Service has approaching deadlines to ensure delivery by Dec. 25.
Domestic packages being by ground will need to be sent by Dec. 14. First class and priority mail will need to be sent by Dec. 20. Priority mail express should be on its way by Dec. 22. International packages will need to be shipped by Dec. 19.
The Postal Service has a few tips to ensure that packages make it to their destination:
- Never use wrapping paper on your parcel - it does not work well for the high-speed sorting machines.
- Do not use boxes from a liquor store -- anything that suggests alcohol may be inside cannot be mailed.
- Use strong and sturdy packages that won’t get damaged in transit.
The U.S. Postal Service is expected to ship more than sixteen-point-two million pounds of mail to our troops overseas. The cutoff for sending priority mail packages addressed to those in the military overseas. However, express packages can still be sent until Dec. 18.
