The McLennan Highlanders closed out the fall portion of their schedule with 109-80 demolishing of the Concordia JV Tornados tonight at The Highlands.

Antonio De La Trigg drained a 3-pointer for the Tornados less than a minute into the game to begin the scoring. Xavier Armstead reciprocated with a nothing-but-net 3-pointer of his own less than 10 seconds later to tie the game at three, prompting the Concordia coach to call for a 30-second timeout to regroup. The Tornados stuck with the Highlanders through the first six and a half minutes of the game, making four shots behind the arch to trail McLennan by only two, 14-12. The Highlanders began to pull away, using a 9-0 run over the next two minutes to take the first double-digit lead of the contest at 23-12. Concordia began to rally and cut the McLennan lead to seven with 7:32 to play in the first half, 31-24. The Highlanders broke the game open with another run, this one of the 10-0 variety, ignited by back-to-back 3-pointers by Armstead. McLennan extended the lead to 18 at the half, 55-37.

The Highlander domination continued early in the second half. Strong shooting from Mike Adewunmi and Devyn Brewton helped McLennan extend the lead to 32, 75-43 with 13:22 remaining in the game. Concordia rallied midway through the half, cutting the lead to 20 but that would be as close as the Tornados would get.

Mike Adewunmi led the way with 26 points and Xavier Armstead added 23. Devyn Brewton and Jordan Skipper-Brown scored 14 points each.

McLennan will return to the court Dec. 29 following the winter holidays when the Highlanders host the Angelina Roadrunners at 4 p.m.
