La Vega running back John Richards finished with all four Pirate touchdowns as his team defeated Argyle to earn a spot in the UIL Semifinals.
Richards did not play in the regular season match up, but quickly got two first half touchdowns to cement the Pirate lead. Turnovers plagued the Eagles and La Vega's defense capitalized in a big way.
The Pirates rolled to a 31 to 17 victory, but head coach Don Hyde says the team isn't satisfied.
“It’s not the trophy we want. We’re going to take it home and take care of it and put it up on the mantle somewhere, but we’re not after that trophy we’re after the main trophy the one you get when you went at all. . . We knew we were young, but we knew we were going to be a good football team. So excitement is there, but we’re going to pack it up here in a minute and head back and start get back to work trying to win this thing”
La Vega will play Decatur next Friday for a shot at a State Championship berth.
