It was a state champion showdown at The Star tonight.
The Mart Panthers won state last year in 2A Division 1, while the Muenster Hornets did the same in 2A Division 2.
Tonight, the two teams would fight for the chance to advance to the semifinals in hopes to defend their title.
Mart wasted no time finding the end zone. A quarterback keeper by Roddrell Freeman would put the Panthers on the board early.
The Panthers defense would make a statement their first time out, Freeman forcing a fumble and Logan Wehmeyer recovering. Wehmeyer's night would only get better. The senior would add an interception to his stats in the second quarter.
The very next play, Freeman went to the air and found a wide open Dometrius Green for six more.
Tyrek Horne would return a Hornet punt for a touchdown in the first quarter, and later score again off a dump pass from Freeman.
Shatydrick Bailey showed off his speed and skill, spinning out of tackles to take it 69 yards across the goal line.
The Mart Panthers were absolutely dominate the rest of the game and never took their foot off the gas as they beat the defending 2A state champions 59-0 to advance to the semifinals.
