Baylor volleyball’s Yossiana Pressley and Shelly Fanning were voted to the 2018 American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I Southwest Region First Team for the second-straight season, announced Tuesday morning by the AVCA and voted on by the region’s head coaches.
Pressley, a Cypress, Texas native, led the Big 12 in kills and points per set for the second consecutive year and nabs her 10th honor of the season. Her numbers as a sophomore rank eighth all-time in kills per set (4.70) and ninth in total kills (517) in a single season at Baylor.
Fanning earns her 12th honor of the season and second-straight AVCA first team regional honor. She led the Big 12 in hitting percentage in both the regular season (.397) and conference play (.399), breaking her own school record for single-season hitting percentage.
The Bears ended the 2018 season in the NCAA Second Round for the third consecutive season. BU took down Hawai’i in the opening round before falling in five sets to No. 14 Oregon in Eugene, capping off its third-straight 20-win season under head coach Ryan McGuyre.
Up next, both Bears will be considered for a spot on one of the 14-member First, Second, or Third Team All-American teams voted on by the AVCA membership and announced next week.
