Baylor Director of Tennis and Head Men’s Tennis Coach Brian Boland announced the addition of freshman Adrian Boitan to the 2018-19 roster Monday afternoon.
Boitan, a Constanta, Romania native, will join the team in January.
"We are so excited to have Adrian Boitan joining the Baylor Bears for the upcoming season," Boland said. "Adrian has separated himself as one of the best players in Romania and has already had success competing on the professional circuit.”
Boitan achieved a career-high ATP ranking of 833 in singles and 1479 in doubles while holding a career-best UTR of 14.06.
Boitan, a Romanian 18U national champion, holds a personal-best ITF junior ranking of 158. He recently earned three straight wins to advance to the semifinals of the George F3 Futures in Telavi.
“Adrian brings a competitive tenacity and a passion for the game that will, without a doubt, help Baylor back to the pinnacle of collegiate tennis,” Boland said. “His professionalism and commitment to develop his tennis and play at the highest level of the game is something we look for in every recruit, so we are very fortunate to add him to our roster for the spring season.”
Boitan will enter a BU program that has won 13 Big 12 Conference regular season titles and eight tournament crowns over the 22-year history of the league. The Bears begin their first season under four-time national championship coach Brian Boland, who was announced as the program’s ninth head coach on May 24. He joins eight returning letterwinners and newcomers Kyrylo Tsygura and Finn Bass.
