Groundbreaking for the new Baylor Scott and White Sports and Orthopedic Center was held at the Baylor Scott and White Medical Center Hillcrest campus.

Officials from Baylor Scott and White, Southwest Sports Medicine, the Baylor Scott and White Foundation and local elected officials were on hand for the official groundbreaking.

The 106,000-square-foot facility will have a surgery center, outdoor sports performance area, rehabilitation therapy, procedure rooms, exam rooms, MRI and radiology, administrative areas and offices for Baylor Scott and White Southwest Sports Medicine and Orthopedics.

"There’s a lot of excitement. Just the community involvement and the hospital system involvement is huge, and this is ultimately for the patient. We want to increase access and increase the quality of care that we continue to provide for our patients," said Dr. Jon Ellis, President of Southwest Sport Medicine and Orthopedics.

Construction of the four story building is expected to be completed in December 2019.
