Baylor soccer earned recognition as the United Soccer Coaches Midwest Regional Staff of the Year, announced Tuesday afternoon by the national organization.

Sixth-year head coach Paul Jobson, 11th-year assistant Chuck Codd and second-year assistant Matt Smith were voted the region’s top coaching staff, one of just eight coaching staffs in the country to earn the recognition.

Assisted by volunteer assistant Elizabeth Perkins, student assistant Aline De Lima and director of operations Justine Hovden, the staff helped lead the Bears back into the Elite 8 for the second-straight season, won a program-record 20 matches and secured the program’s first regular-season Big 12 title since 1998.

Each of the coaching staffs receiving Regional Staff of the Year honors will be recognized at the United Soccer Coaches College Coaches Awards Reception on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019 at the Convention in Chicago.

In addition, the Regional Staff of the Year recipients will be placed on the United Soccer Coaches ballot for National Staff of the Year consideration within their respective NCAA division. United Soccer Coaches will announce the Men’s and Women’s National Staffs of the Year for all NCAA divisions on Friday, Dec. 14.

The award is the second regional coaching award in program history, joined by Randy Waldrum’s recognition in the 1998 season.
