BELTON, Texas – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s soccer players Steven Dang, Patrick Roach and Caleb Vandergriff were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Second Team, released Monday.
Dang, a senior midfielder/defender from Plano, Texas (West H.S.) finished the season ranked sixth in the American Southwest Conference in points (23) and goals (10). He totaled three game-winning goals and sealed the Cru’s second consecutive ASC title with the game-winning nod over UT Dallas. Dang also added two assists and heavily contributed to UMHB’s defensive efforts.
Roach, a freshman forward from Kingwood, Texas (Kingwood Park H.S.), ranked third in the ASC in shots (59), points (25) goals (11) and game-winning goals (4). Roach was named ASC Offensive Freshman of the Year and helped the Cru outscore opponents 49-22 on the season with game-winners against East Texas Baptist, LeTourneau, Belhaven and Hardin-Simmons.
Vandergriff, a senior defender from Georgetown, Texas (East View H.S.), joined Dang in anchoring a UMHB defense that ranked third in the ASC in goals allowed (19) and goals-against average (0.98). UMHB’s back line recorded eight shutouts on the season with Vandergriff at the helm.
Dang, Roach and Vandergriff were all named First Team All-American Southwest Conference. This is the third all-region award for Vandergriff, second for Dang and first for Roach.
