The West Trojans haven't been able to claim a district title in a while, but all that could change Friday night against Teague.
West has only lost one game in district all year and that came at the hands of Whitney. The Wildcats needed five turnovers to make it happen and Trojans quarterback Nathan Gerik says that isn't happening again.
"It falls a lot on me because I had the turnovers. Yeah, but as a team, as a whole we're going to have to work our hardest."
West rebounded from that Whitney loss with a 35-0 drubbing of Maypearl. Head coach David Woodard says that team looked more like what he's been coaching all season and that's thanks to his upperclassmen leaders.
"This senior class has qualified for the playoffs all four years they've been in high school and that's huge considering where we were six or seven years ago. It would be big for these guys to share the district championship and to have a chance to be a number one seed in the playoffs with the hard work and effort they've put in not just this year but over their whole career."
The players recognize the magnitude of this game and senior linebacker Preston Johnson says they're locked in.
"You can't leave anything out on the field. Especially me as a senior. I know there are a lot of senior guys, my brothers on the team. We're not going to leave anything out there because its our last chance."
Fans will get to watch that final chance Friday night at 7:30 in West.
