BELTON, Texas – Two University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football players have been honored as American Southwest Conference Players of the Week. Jalen Martin and Aaron Sims were recognized for their performances in the Cru’s 80-7 victory over Louisiana College.

Martin, a senior linebacker from Cedar Ridge High School in Round Rock, was voted ASC Co-Defensive Player of the Week. He intercepted two passes and returned one of those picks 30 yards for a touchdown. Martin also broke up two passes despite sitting out much of the second half with the game in hand. Martin helped lead a defense that limited the Wildcats to just seven points and 156 yards of total offense in the game.

Sims, a freshman wide receiver and kick returner from Yoe High School in Cameron, was named ASC Special Teams Player of the Week. Sims returned a punt 74 yards for a touchdown as UMHB broke the ASC single-season record for punt returns for touchdown with six. It was the third punt return for a touchdown for Sims this season and he also caught a nine-yard touchdown pass in the game. Sims has won three ASC Special Teams Player of the Week honors this season.

UMHB is 9-0 overall and has an 8-0 mark in ASC play. The Cru has clinched at least a share of the ASC title and has already locked up the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. UMHB will close out the regular season with a 2 pm kickoff at East Texas Baptist University Saturday in Marshall.
