UMHB Women’s Soccer edged by Hardin-Simmons in ASC Championship

ABILENE, Texas   – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team fell 1-0 to Hardin-Simmons University Sunday afternoon in Abilene. UMHB advanced to the championship match of the American Southwest Conference Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament for the second consecutive season and ends its 2018 campaign at 12-5-2.

Taylor Bernal netted the game-winner for the Cowgirls in the 26th minute, scoring off a break away pass from Kendell Groom for the 1-0 win. Hardin-Simmons outshot the Cru 12-4 in the contest, putting four shots on goal to the Cru’s one. Madison Link and Chelsea Graham split UMHB’s shot count at two each. Emmy McMaude took the loss for the Cru, making three saves with one goal allowed. Caitlin Christiansen earned the win for the Comets, making one save in the match.

Hardin-Simmons earned the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament with the win. The 2018 NCAA bracket will be announced in the selections show on Monday, November 5th at 12 p.m. on NCAA.com
