Texas A&M softball tops Galveston College, 10-5

The Texas A&M softball team defeated Galveston College 10-5 in a 10-inning matchup Thursday night at Davis Diamond.

The Aggies jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first as Riley Sartain doubled to score Kylie George.

The Whitecaps responded with two runs on five hits before Texas A&M added four runs in the third to regain the lead, highlighted by a three-run homer from Sartain.

Galveston College used four singles and three walks to tie the game at 5-5 in the sixth. In the seventh, the Aggies took advantage of four walks, a sacrifice fly and two hits, including a double from Payton McBride, to give them a four-run lead.

The Maroon & White added an insurance run in the ninth to conclude scoring for the Aggies.

Hannah Mayo threw the first 5.1 innings of the game, allowing 10 hits, five runs and three walks, while striking out two. Payton McBride earned the win to move to 2-0 in the fall as she fanned three and allowed just two walks and one hit in 2.2 innings of work. Kendall Potts spent the last two innings in the circle, recording four strikeouts and allowing just two hits and one walk.
