The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team earned a 2-0 win in its ASC quarterfinal match against Concordia University Texas, advancing to the semifinal round of the 2018 American Southwest Conference Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament. The win improved UMHB to 11-4-2 on the season while the Tornados fell to 6-10.
Caitlyn Shaughnessy gave UMHB a lead in the 18th minute, scoring an unassisted goal for a 1-0 Cru advantage. Chelsea Graham extended that lead in the 50th minute, hitting a shot into the top right corner off an assist from Madison Link. Link and Bailey Aleman led the Cru with three shots each while UMHB outshot the Tornados 16-4 in the contest. UMHB put eight of their shots on goal while the Tornados had just three on-frame shots.
Emmy McMaude earned the win in the net for UMHB, making three saves in the full 90-minute contest. Shelby Franco took the loss for the Tornados, making five saves with two goals allowed.
UMHB advances in the tournament and will face No. 2 seed UT Dallas in an 8 p.m. semifinal match on Friday, November 2nd. The semifinal and final rounds of the tournament will be hosted by No. 1 seed Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.
