The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team continued its run as the #2 team in the country in the two major NCAA Division III Top 25 Polls for the seventh consecutive week this week. The Cru (8-0, 7-0 American Southwest Conference) is coming off a dominating 80-7 win over McMurry University for its 30th consecutive regular season victory.
The Cru is ranked second in the country in the seventh American Football Coaches Association Top 25 Poll of the 2018 season. The Cru totaled 11 first-place votes and 1,259 total points from the AFCA. Defending national champion Mount Union continues to hold down the top spot with 41 first-place votes and 1,289 total points. Brockport (NY) is ranked third, Wisconsin-Whitewater is fourth and St. John’s (MN) comes in at #5 this week. UMHB’s ASC rival Hardin-Simmons is ranked 8th by the AFCA with 904 total points. Texas Lutheran received votes worth two points to give the ASC three programs receiving mention in that poll this week.
“I think we made some major strides on Saturday and played pretty well in every phase of the game,” Cru Head Coach Pete Fredenburg said. “We are getting closer to being the football team we want to be and we are getting closer to being the team we need to be to reach our goals.”
UMHB also held on to the #2 spot in this week’s D3football.com Top 25 Poll. The Cru took five first-place votes and 605 total points. Mount Union is #1 with 20 first-place votes and 619 total points. Brockport is #3, St. John’s is ranked fourth and Wisconsin-Whitewater rounds out the top five. Hardin-Simmons held steady at #8 in the D3football.com poll.
The Cru will host Louisiana College for a 1 pm kickoff this Saturday in the regular season home finale. The Wildcats are 4-4 overall and 4-3 in ASC play on the season going into Saturday’s game.
