The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s golf team improved by ten strokes but could not move up in the team standings on the final day of the Abilene Intercollegiate Tuesday in Abilene. The Cru finished in seventh place in the team standings in the event

UMHB followed up its opening round 308 with a second round 298 to finish at 606 and in seventh place. Southwestern University came back to win the tournament after shooting 289-285=574. McMurry University finished second, two strokes back with a 288-288=576. Texas Lutheran’s 296-284=580 was good for third place, tournament host Hardin-Simmons University finished fourth at 298-289=587 and LeTourneau University rounded out the top five after posting 304-297=601. U.T.-Dallas edged the Cru by two shots to finish with a sixth-place total of 308-296=604. Howard Payne University finished eighth with a 316-310=626 and Centenary College took ninth place with a 321-310=631.

Cort Crawley was the top individual finisher for UMHB after tying for 19th place with a 78-72=150. Tyler Gonzalez tied for 25th place after shooting 79-74=153, Parker Love (80-74) and Caleb Schwertner (76-78) tied for 28th place with 154’s and Dustin Dingler finished 31st with a 75-84=159. McMurry’s Clemente Yanes fired a 70-69=139 to win individual medalist honors.

The two-day, 36-hole tournament was played on a par-71, 6,977-yard track at Diamondback Golf Course in Abilene. The event closes out the fall schedule for the UMHB men.
