Texas A&M forwards Ally Watt and Ásdís Halldórsdóttir were honored as the SEC Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday.
Watt, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., scored a goal in her fourth consecutive match and added an assist in a 2-1 win over No. 23 Mississippi State. One week after scoring a goal in the first 10 minutes of both of their wins, Watt once again notched the match’s ice breaker, but this time it came in the 60th minute. She later added an assist on an important insurance goal by Halldórsdóttir to give her three points in the match. Watt moved into 13th place on the Aggies’ career goals list with 30.
The SEC also recognized Watt as Offensive Player of the Week on October 2, 2017 and Freshman Player of the Week on October 19, 2015.
Halldórsdóttir, a freshman from Reykjavik, Iceland, recorded the game-winning goal in the victory against Mississippi State. She battled hard just outside the six-yard box, collecting a feed close to the right corner and punched inside the near post to give Texas A&M an insurance goal that would come in handy when the Bulldogs scored with 53 seconds remaining in the match to close the gap to one goal.
It marks the second SEC Freshman of the Week honor for Halldórsdóttir. She also earned the recognition following her match against then-No. 9 Santa Clara when she logged a goal and an assist in Texas A&M’s 4-0 rout.
The Aggies return to action Thursday when they travel to Tuscaloosa for a 6 p.m. contest against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
