University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football players Joey Longoria and Aaron Sims have been awarded Player of the Week honors by the American Southwest Conference. The Cru duo was recognized for their performances in UMHB’s 55-0 victory at Howard Payne University Friday night.
Longoria, a junior defensive tackle from Pearland High School, led the Cru with six total tackles against the Yellow Jackets. He added two sacks and a pair of tackles for loss. UMHB’s defense posted its second consecutive shutout and held HPU to just 95 yards of total offense in the game.
Sims, a freshman wide receiver/kick returner from Yoe High School in Cameron, had a 50-yard punt return for a touchdown in the Cru’s victory. He finished with four punt returns for 130 yards, averaging 32.5 yards per return. Sims also caught three passes in the game.
This is Longoria’s second ASC Player of the Week honor this season and the first weekly honor for Sims. UMHB is now 6-0 overall and 5-0 in ASC play on the season. The Cru will return to action with a noon kickoff against Belhaven University (1-5, 1-4 ASC) Saturday in Jackson, Mississippi.
