The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept West Division opponent McMurry University 3-0 Tuesday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 17-1 on the season and 11-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the War Hawks fell to 17-4 overall and 7-3 in league play.
Both teams opened the first set powerfully with UMHB pulling away for the final points to take a two-point win in the set. McMurry held a lead late through the second before UMHB fought off five set points to take a 27-25 win. The Cru took command of the third, cruising to a 25-14 win. Hope Hoelscher led UMHB with 10 kills while Sarah Paolini added nine and Corinne Novak and Jenna Gillean each added eight. UMHB hit .292 in the match, slamming 45 kills on 113 total attacks. Cory Jo Martin led UMHB with 30 assists while Miranda Klein added nine. Defensively, Haleigh Evans led the Cru with 20 digs followed by Jenna Gillean and Corinne Novak with 10 each. Sarah Paoilni was the leading blocker for UMHB, recording five en route to a team-total eight. UMHB limited the War Hawks to a .157 hitting percentage in the match.
UMHB returns to action on Friday, October 12th in a 6 p.m. match at the University of Texas at Tyler.
