KINGWOOD, TX (KXXV) - A swerving 18-wheeler lost its load on a Texas highway, causing lumber to fly into cars and shut down lanes for six hours.
ABC13 said lumber flew onto the northbound lanes of Eastex Freeway near Kingwood Drive around 4:30 p.m.
The wood crashed into several cars, even causing one to roll over.
"I hit the wood," driver Christopher Scribner told ABC13. "My car actually rolled over once, and landed back on four wheels, thankfully. I just opened my eyes at that point and saw the windshield was completely shattered and my side airbags were deployed."
Fortunately, Scribner was not hurt.
ABC 13 reporter Nick Natario said traffic backup from the accident was so bad, it took him nearly three hours to get from the Texas Medical Center to the scene of the accident. The route is only about 28 miles long.
After 3 hours, we finally made it to the site where a truck lost its lumber on the Eastex Freeway. Crews are still working to clean the mess. I’m live on @abc13houston at 10:00 p.m. with the latest. What we know already: https://t.co/cJKfo01S1U pic.twitter.com/SOwcnXKdKB
