The Belton Tigers are taking their undefeated district record to Temple this week.
The Tigers have ripped off four straight wins since losing their season opener, and they've done it on the back of a physical defensive line. Head coach Sam Skidmore knows that line will have to be effective against a Temple offense that is averaging more than 40 points per game.
"The better our defensive line plays it allows our linebackers to roam and go make tackles. It takes a lot of pressure off the secondary. Defensive line getting pressure rushes the quarterback and it makes our defense run."
Offensively, the Tigers haven't scored les than 35 points since that first week. A lot of that has to do with the play of senior quarterback Connor Carothers, a calm customer that keeps the Belton offense balanced and calm.
Even with young performers at some positions, Carothers says his team will be fine even if Temple makes a few plays.
"We just need to calm the young kids down when that happens. We have to tell them that no play is too big. This game is not too big for us."
Belton will play at Temple Friday night at 7:30.
