Waco police said they have arrested five people in connection to a burglary ring that took place during the spring of 2018.
Police identified three of the suspects as Matthew Silva,18, Michael Guerrera,18, and Isabella Herrera,17. The two other suspects are juveniles.
Police announced on Tuesday the suspects have been linked to 14 burglaries around Waco, one burglary in Killeen and one burglary in Robinson. Police said investigators also found that the teens are connected to several vehicle thefts.
"These types of criminal events strike at the very heart of our community. Our homes are a sanctuary for each of us. Having that personal space invaded by a criminal is very disturbing," said Ryan Holt, Waco Police Chief. "The dedication and teamwork shown by our detectives, patrol officers, crime scene technicians and others who helped in putting those responsible behind bars, is to be commended."
Two stolen vehicles were recovered as well as multiple personal items that were taken during the burglaries. Items recovered include: Automobile and home stereo equipment, cell phones, a gun safe, a video game console, video games, a home computer, assorted jewelry, three firearms, numerous knives, and a pair of Beats headphones.
Investigators obtained seven arrest warrants for engaging in organized criminal activity, 22 warrants for burglary of habitation and two warrants for evading arrest.
Silva and Guerrera were each charged with one count of engaging in organized criminal activity and seven counts of burglary of a habitation. Herrera was charged with one count of engaging in organized criminal activity and one count of burglary of a habitation.
One additional suspect is wanted for engaging in organized criminal activity.
Police said due to these arrests, they are able to clear eight other burglary cases in the Waco area.
