Eighteen-time and defending Big 12 champion Baylor kicks off its women’s basketball season with the start of official practice Monday at the Whetsel Practice Facility at 1:30 p.m. The Lady Bears, under 19th year head coach Kim Mulkey will look to build on a 2017-18 campaign that saw BU take home both the regular season and Big 12 Tournament titles and reach its 13th NCAA Sweet 16.
Anchored by Preseason All-Americans Kalani Brown and Lauren Cox, the Lady Bears have collected three preseason national rankings in the top five heading into the year. The Athlon Sports College Basketball Preview tabbed Baylor as No. 3, Street & Smith’s selected BU at No. 4 and Lindy’s Sports College Basketball has the Lady Bears at No. 5 heading into the season.
Along with Brown and Cox, Baylor returns four lettermen and welcomes five freshmen and a graduate transfer for a 12-woman roster for the 2018-19 campaign.
Monday’s first practice will be followed by the first press conference of the season featuring Mulkey, Brown and Cox. The busy week continues with daily practice from 1-4 p.m. and the Tip Off Club’s Welcome Back Dinner Thursday at the Ferrell Center at 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday’s practice will be held at the Ferrell Center’s main floor and will be open to the public from 1-4 p.m.

Baylor opens the regular season Nov. 6 vs. Nicholls State at home with a 6 p.m. tip, but fans can get their first glimpse with home exhibition contests Oct. 26 and Nov. 1 vs. Langston and Texas A&M-Commerce, respectively with 7 p.m. tips for each contest.
