Baylor men’s tennis went 5-1 to open play at the Oracle ITA Masters Thursday at the Malibu Racquet Club and Pepperdine’s Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif.
In singles action, 33rd-ranked Schretter earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Pepperdine’s Adrian Oetzbach to advance to Friday’s second round. 85th-ranked Lah also advanced with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 win over Mercer’s Olivier Stuart.
Schretter will face 12th-ranked Mitch Harper (Virginia Tech) while Lah will challenge No. 54 Christian Sigsgaard (Texas) in the second round of the singles draw.
In mixed doubles play, sixth-seeded Lah and Michael Bayerlova (Washington State) downed Hendrick Inno (Belmont) and Lidia Yanes Garcia (Austin Peay) in the opening round, 7-5, before securing a spot in the quarterfinals with a 6-4 victory over Henry Patten (UNC Asheville) and Lauren Proctor (Winthrop).
Seventh-seeded Schretter and Makenna Jones (North Carolina) took a 6-1 win over Jordan Benjamin (Dayton) and Maria Siopacha (George Washington) in the first round before bowing out of the draw with a 6-4 defeat to Stefan Milicevic (Minnesota) and Kate Fahey (Michigan) in round two.
Lah and Bayerlova match up against Christian Sigsgaard (Texas) and Erica Oosterhout (Harvard) in the quarterfinals on Friday.
