The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team played the University of Texas at Tyler to a one-goal draw Thursday evening in Tyler. UMHB moved to 3-2-2 on the season while the Patriots went to 4-1-2.
UMHB outshot the Patriots 7-2 in the first half, but neither team found the back of the net in the first 45 minutes. Kaelyn Steitz broke the drought soon after play resumed, scoring the Patriots lone-goal of the contest in the 51st minute. Madison Link responded for the Cru in the 71st minute, hitting a shot from 25 yards out to even the game. Neither team was able to score through the remainder of regulation or either overtime period, ending the game with a 1-1 draw.
Chelsea Graham led UMHB with eight shots while Link, Taylor Marques and Emily Blaettner each added two. UMHB put 11 of their 21 shots on frame and outshot the Patriots 6-5 in the overtime periods. Emmy McMaude was the goalkeeper of record in the tie, making five saves in the full 110-minute contest. Jade Crump played the entire game in the net for the Patriots, making 10 saves.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, September 22nd in a 2 p.m. match at University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark.
