Baylor soccer checked in at No. 25 in the first NCAA Rating Percentage Index (RPI) rankings, the highest opening RPI for Baylor since the NCAA began releasing weekly rankings in 2011.
The Bears crack the Top 25 of the RPI ranks for the first time since the 2012 season, when BU finished the year ranked No. 10 in the final standings after a seven-week run in the Top 25 and a Sweet 16 berth in the NCAA Tournament.
The Big 12 is well represented among the nation’s top ranks, with BU joined in the Top 25 by TCU (No. 9), Kansas (No. 13), Texas (No. 16), and Oklahoma State (No. 18).
Among the Top 25 RPI teams, Baylor’s five matches away from home (away and neutral) ties for second-most, trailing only Memphis (6), Georgtown (6), and Nebraska (6), while tying North Carolina (5).
All three of Baylor’s losses on the year are on the road to teams in the Top 75, including South Florida (No. 23), Arizona (No. 37), and Arkansas (No. 63).
BU has already notched several signature Top 100 wins, besting Nebraska (No. 21), Butler (No. 46), and Arizona State (No. 97).
The Bears have some big opportunities to continue building towards a postseason resume with the next four matches all coming against Top 50 RPI opponents, including Texas, TCU, Texas Tech (No. 50), and West Virginia (No. 39).
