The Waco Regional Airport has been given a $2.63 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to acquire land, reconstruct a taxiway and apron area, and purchase air crash rescue and firefighting vehicles.
"These Airport Improvement Grants are investments in our country’s critical infrastructure," said Elaine L. Chao, U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary. "This grant is a down payment to ensure that the Waco Airport remains an economic engine as demand grows."
The grant is a part of a total of $586 million that will fund infrastructure projects across the nation.
Each year airports receive a certain amount of Airport Improvement Program entitlement funding based on activity levels and project needs. If the airport's capital project needs exceed its available entitlement funds, the FAA may supplement entitlements with discretionary funding.
