"That's a funny misconception even around our community. We have an inexperienced team, not a young team."
Gatesville coach Kyle Cooper knows his football team lost a lot last season, but he says the Hornets just replaced seniors with even more seniors waiting in the wings.
"We had some kids that had not been in a leadership role as far as the team goes because of a big senior class last year. It's another big senior class with a group of kids that are ready to step in and take over those leadership roles."
The Hornets will need those leaders as they take on a revamped Cameron Yoe team Friday night. Still, Gatesville's offense is built for versatility and senior running back Anthony Costas has been wearing opponents down.
Gatesville's workhorse echoed his teammates sentiments when asked to sum up how he felt about Friday's match up.
"I'm just ready to get at [Cameron Yoe]. I know last year we beat them and we're one of the only teams in Texas to have a winning record against them so I'm really excited for this week."
Costas and his teammates will get that chance Friday night at 7:30 in Gatesville.
