Baylor football head coach Matt Rhule summed up his Wednesday afternoon news conference by saying his defense needed to play better.
"I think the biggest thing for us is our defensive line just playing with an edge," started Rhule, "And that starts with the coaches, you know? It starts with us are they practicing like their hair is on fire? Are we coaching like our hair is on fire? Are we getting in late and leaving early as coaches? We have to have that grind mentality as a group."
Rhule wants his team to improve upon a performance that let up more than 200 yards rushing against Abilene Christian week one. UTSA was able to do that last season, but with improved depth Rhule wants to combat that.
"I don't want us to be a team where we get up bit and we relax. Or, if we're down big we quit. We want to be a team that plays for 60 minutes. That to me is really our brand. I want you to turn the tape on and not know if we're winning or losing by the way we play."
Baylor will get the chance to show off that defensive mentality 6 p.m. Saturday in the Alamodome.
