The Bears were looking to start the season off with a win playing host to the Abilene Christian Wildcats week one.
It wasn't clear who would be leading the Bears offense until the first series when Charlie Brewer took the first snap. But, it didn't stay that way for long.
Second series, Jalan McClendon came in and led the Bears in their first touchdown scoring series of the year.
An initial touchdown pass to JaMycal Hasty was called back due to penalties, but McClendon connected with Jalen Hurd for the official first Bears touchdown of the season.
McClendon spread the love around finding Marques Jones streaking across the end zone. Jones was able to pull the ball in as he tip-toed out of bounds for another Bears touchdown.
The Bears defense got into the action too with big plays of their own. Creating turnovers has been a focus for this defense all training camp.
Terrel Bernard snagged an interception, and Ira Lewis would came up big with a sack when it was needed most.
Later, Charlie Brewer served a quick hand off to JaMycal Hasty who punched it across the goal line giving the Bears another six on the board.
But, it didn't matter who handed it off to Hasty because not too many snaps later he would take the hand off from McClendon and take it 54 yards to the house.
ACU's Billy McCrary showed off his run game too though with a 75 yard streak down the sideline.
John Lovett of the Bears is who finished off the first half for the Bears though. With a little shake and bake action and the slip of a defender, he would find himself celebrating in the end zone.
Bears went into the locker room at halftime up 18.
Doctors ruled Charlie Brewer out with a back injury so the QB didn’t see much action in the second half.
McClendon and the offense didn’t miss a beat though as they kept the ball on the ground getting John Lovett into the end zone again, capping off their first home victory.
Baylor’s next game is a road contest against UTSA. Kickoff is scheduled for Sept 8 at 6 p.m.
