Some areas of Interstate 35 will be closed off for repairs after being damaged by a recent truck explosion.

Interstate 35 has reopened after hours of being shut down due to an 18-wheeler that caught fire and then exploded with cans of Axe body spray inside on Aug. 31.

The driver reported seeing fire in his review mirror, so he pulled into the shoulder and detached the trailer. After the pulled over, the aerosol cans exploded.

Cans of the body spray were scattered across both sides of the interstate. A TxDOT spokesman said there will be an evaluation of the burned area in the northbound lanes to officially determine whether or not any resurfacing needs to be done.

TxDOT said that the left and center lanes of northbound Interstate 35 would be closed for repairs. The lanes are expected to close at 6 p.m. Monday and re-opened by 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Repairs will include grinding off the top several inches from the pavement and lay new asphalt, creating a new surface.
